Q: Is it bad if my gums bleed after I brush my teeth? Is it bad if my gums bleed after I brush my teeth?
A:Bleeding gums can be caused by any of the following:
o improper, rough, "scrubbing" of your teeth and gums rather than gentle, circular brushing motions
o using a hard-bristled tooth brush instead of a soft one
o plaque and/or tartar build-up below the gum line
o gum sensitivity due to gingivitis or periodontal disease.
Bleeding gums are a sign of unhealthy gums. We recommend visiting Dr. McKay soon.
