Dr. Mckay's Dental Philosophy
When I was a young, wet-behind-the-ears dentist, I believed that everyone should come to me for their dental work I think every new dentist feels that way. My philosophy was: "Come one, come all." My practice grew and grew and grew and while I still practiced dentistry every day, I was getting bogged down in administrative minutiae that took me away from what attracted me to dentistry in the first place, the one-on-one time with patients and seeing their lives improve through my efforts and those of my team.
As my concept of how to provide dentistry evolved, I found the most meaning in a quote from Bill Cosby in his book, "Fatherhood". I may not always know the formula for success, but I do know the formula for failure, trying to please everyone! This rang true to me and echoed to the core of my being.
I left my family dentistry office in the Northgate area of Seattle in 1997. I took a 15-month sabbatical before opening Advanced Cosmetic & Laser Dentistry. This time was invaluable. It gave me perspective and allowed me to return to school, retool my professional degree and build my new environment.
My friends didn't quite understand the transformation. In the beginning, they would ask, So you're just going to do Hollywood teeth makeovers now? Do I have to find another dentist? My answer then is the same as it is now, My passion is to change people's lives by improving their smiles and I still love dentistry. So, you can still be a part of my practice because you want me to be your dentist - not because it's the best for your insurance company, but it's the best for your long term dental health. In my heart, I knew this was the right path.
That's my philosophy and the driving idea behind Advanced Cosmetic & Laser Dentistry. We're here for you and with you.
The differences between my old style of practice and my new approach are like night and day. You are a part of the equation. You help decide the direction we go in. I keep you informed of everything and the experience is of the highest caliber possible.
